Pitt Alum’s Book Featured for School-wide Read

With an aim to ignite learning and work toward equity and justice in education, the School of Education invites all members of the Pitt community to participate in its School-wide Read programming.

This year, participants will read “We Want to Do More than Survive: Abolitionist Teaching and the Pursuit of Educational Freedom,” by Pitt education alum Bettina Love (CGS '01, EDUC '02G).

Programming will begin on Friday, Jan. 30, with a book discussion with Pitt Education Dean Valerie Kinloch in Posvar Hall, room 5001, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Other discussion events will feature Leigh Patel, associate dean of equity and justice; Elon Dancy, professor and director of the Center for Urban Education; Kari Kokka, assistant professor of mathematics education; and Lori Delale-O’Connor, assistant professor.

Additionally, an online session will be available for participants to attend virtually.

For more information, visit the School-wide Read online.

All members of the public are invited to join Love for the Pitt School of Education’s 2020 Alumni Lecture on Thursday, March 19. After a talk about her book, Love will join Dean Valerie Kinloch for a fireside chat; the event is free, but registration is recommended. Register online.
