Pitt PARK(ing) Day Will Kick Off Year of Creativity

For one day only, the parking spaces in front of Hillman Library and Posvar Hall will be transformed into temporary parklets, pop-up poetry collaborations and social spaces. Don’t miss the experience as Pitt celebrates its third annual PARK(ing) Day on Friday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

PARK(ing) Day is an international event that challenges participants to consider urban spaces and how small, temporary changes can make big impacts. For the past two years, the Center for Creativity and Department of Parking, Transportation and Services have sponsored the University’s PARK(ing) Day events.

This year, the event will also mark the official kickoff for Year of Creativity. “It’s an event open to everyone on campus to come and create, or watch or participate in their own ways,” said Jeanne Marie Laskas, founding director of the Center for Creativity and co-chair of the Year of Creativity.

“That's the spirit of the Year of Creativity: celebrating and getting to know our campus community as a powerhouse of creativity,” said Laskas, who reported a few sneak peeks at what some departments are planning: “Enough to get us excited about all the surprises that await!”

Stop by the spaces along Schenley Drive to see how Pitt departments, teams and organizations have transformed them. You’ll find games, cardboard furniture, information about native plants and more.
