Spooky Events Promote Fitness, Cybersecurity

Extraterrestrial clowns, haunted hotels and shambling zombies may make for thrilling movies, but data breaches and health scares can be even more frightening. Upcoming University events aim to help participants avoid things that go bump in the night — or on the screen.

Spooky Strides

The Health and Lifestyle Institute’s Be Fit Pitt initiative celebrates Halloween a few days early on Friday, Oct. 25, with Spooky Strides, a one-mile loop around the Cathedral of Learning. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., groups will meet in front of the Cathedral to start their circuit, which will feature Halloween-themed activity stations along the way.

Can’t make it to the walk? Have no fear! Be Fit Pitt’s YouTube channel has a variety of terrifyingly helpful videos — more than 100 — to keep you moving wherever and whenever it’s most convenient for you. October is the perfect month to work on your Bat Wing BalanceHaunted Hip Hinges and Desk Cobras.

Cybersecurity Scare House

On Friday, Oct. 31, join Pitt Information Technology at the William Pitt Union from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. for the annual Cybersecurity Scare House. Participants will learn about digital terrors like identity theft, financial scams and phishing attempts as they navigate the haunted scarehouse.

Refreshments will be provided and prizes will be given away. Add the event to your calendar.

The event is the culmination of a monthlong focus on cybersecurity for October’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Learn more about cybersecurity awareness
