Staff Council Summer Events: Yoga, Kennywood

Summer is merely days away and Pitt’s Staff Council is pleased to invite the Pitt community to a series of fun and informative sessions dedicated to fostering employee engagement and wellness.

If you are interested in learning more about Staff Council, consider attending the council’s next general meeting on Wednesday, June 19, at Benedum Hall, Room 102, from noon to 1 p.m.

Health and Flexible Spending Account Brown Bag Lunch
Tuesday, June 18; Noon; O’Hara Student Center Ballroom

Candice Oberman and Christopher Galiardi, UPMC benefits department representatives, will provide an overview of flexible spending accounts and health saving accounts. Visit the Staff Council website to register for this event.

Therapy Dogs
Wednesday, June 26; Noon; Cathedral of Learning (exact location TBD)

Join the College Canine Program in partnership with Humane Animal Rescue for some therapeutic canine visitation. This is the same group that brings dogs to the Cathedral’s Commons Room on Tuesday evenings. For more information, visit the College Canine Program Facebook page.

Pitt Day at Kennywood
Saturday, June 29; 10:30 a.m.; Kennywood Park, Pavilion 5

Join fellow Pitt staff members for this year’s Pitt Day at Kennywood on Saturday, June 29, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in pavilion 5.  Discount Kennywood admission tickets for Pitt Day can be purchased online and are available while supplies last.

Digital Accessibility Brown Bag Lunch
Tuesday, July 16; Noon; O’Hara Student Center Ballroom

Learn how to support a diverse and inclusive community through facilitating digital accessibility in this session presented by Angela Bedford-Jack, technology accessibility coordinator for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Bedford-Jack will explore key concepts to help make websites, documents and other digital properties more accessible to people with disabilities so that all community members can freely, independently and easily access digital resources.

Yoga U
Thursday, July 25; Noon; Cathedral of Learning lawn

Join Laurel Chiappetta, yoga instructor and owner of the Yoga U PGH studio in Oakland, for a free, 60-minute introductory class open to all Pitt staff. The session will focus on breathing, movement and stretching to foster health and wellness. In the event of rain, please check the Staff Council website on the day of the event for updates.
