Cold Weather Resources for Pitt Community

With temperatures reaching below-freezing levels, resources like the cold weather toolkit and motorist assistance program provide Pitt staff, faculty and students with safety information and assistance.

Cold Weather Toolkit

The Cold Weather Toolkit includes tips on how to prevent cold weather injuries, including information about hypothermia and frostbite, walking safely on icy surfaces and how to dress for frigid temperatures.

Some suggestions include carrying extra clothing in case the ones you’re wearing get wet, avoiding alcohol and caffeinated beverages in favor of warm liquids and adjusting your stride and gait when you encounter icy surfaces.

Motorist Assistance Program

Pitt’s Parking, Transportation & Services provides the Motorist Assistance Program (MAP) to any vehicles parked in University lots, garages or spaces across campus. Services include jump starts, assistance if you get locked out of your car and referrals to local providers for tire changes.

Call MAP at 412-624-4034 during normal parking service office hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For after-hours assistance, contact the Pitt Police at 412-624-2121.
