Committee Hears Opinions About University’s Investment Strategies

The Socially Responsible Investing Committee, formed by Chancellor Patrick Gallagher, hosted two open forums this month to hear opinions about the University of Pittsburgh’s investment strategies.

David Denis, professor at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, chairs the eight-member committee. During both sessions, Denis encouraged the crowd of faculty members, students, staff and area residents in attendance to answer three questions:

  1. What factors do you think should be taken into account when managing the university endowment?
  2. Should these factors include anything regarding the socially responsible investing?
  3. If so, what does socially responsible investing mean to you?

The committee plans to review answers to these questions as it works to generate a report on socially responsible investing. The document, once complete, will go to Gallagher for consideration before being made available to the public.

Community members who were unable to attend one of the forums can share their answers via an online portal created and maintained by the committee, which is accepting input through Dec. 31, 2018.
