Parking Spaces Honor Wounded Warriors

combat wounded parking spaceAt an event leading up to Veteran’s Day, the University unveiled two parking spaces designated for use by combat-wounded veterans at the Soldiers & Sailors parking garage.

Wounded Warrior Family Support, an organization that provides support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations, invited Pitt to participate in the project.

The Soldiers & Sailors Garage was selected for both its connection to the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum — which honors veterans of all branches of service — and its central location on campus.

“It only made sense to put [these spots] in Soldiers & Sailors,” said Kevin Sheehy, director of Parking, Transportation and Services, whose father and son both served in the Marines. “It’s a show of respect to wounded veterans.”

While the spaces are not free, they can be utilized by any wounded combat veteran, whether a Pitt lease holder or a transient parker.
