UCSUR Call for Manners Awards Applications

The University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) is seeking applicants for the 19th annual Steven D. Manners Faculty Development Awards.

Two awards of up to $10,000 each will be presented to research in the social, behavioral and policy sciences at UCSUR. It is not a requirement that work be related to areas of particular interest to UCSUR or use data collected by UCSUR, but those applications will receive special consideration during the judging process.

The Manners Awards grants are intended to support pilot research that has the potential to lead to larger externally funded projects of interest to local and national foundations or state and federal agencies. Evaluation will be based on scientific merit, background and experience of investigator, relevance to UCSUR focus areas and other factors.

One-page letters of intent describing the proposed project are due by Friday, March 1. Letters may be submitted in person, by mail or electronically. All full-time faculty and researchers from all Pitt campuses are eligible.

The awards honor Steven Manners, longtime UCSUR staff member who served as assistant director of the center from 1989 until his death in 2000.

Read the Steven Manners Faculty Development Awards guidelines for more information about the awards, evaluation criteria and award process.
